2. FEATURE: The Secret to My Success

I’m a bit stunned – but in a good way!

Recently I got a big fat check from the Australian Government (they assist exporters and I’m an exporter).

An hour later I got another email showing the biggest deposit to my account ever – coming in from a really big alliance we had last month.

And while my bank account is going through the roof, I checked the results of our holiday promotion....

...the one where I thought we should get more than 30 orders – maybe as many as 100 ... but we had 409 orders come in within 10 days! This is also going to be a huge month.

(I can just see my distributor in his one man office getting all those out! Thanks Ashley.)

So as you can see – it’s quite a day. In fact, quite a week. Quite a month. Quite a year.

The Secret

I started wondering – what did I do? What do I do that’s different than most? What did I do that has caused this massive spike in results? This wonderful success?

I wanted to know - one, so I can keep doing it, and secondly so I can pass it on to you.

(In case you hadn't noticed, that's what I do. I try things out until I find what works, and then I pass it on to you guys).

And here’s what I found …
...

...

I’m constantly investing.

No – not money. I mean time. New things … new ideas … new projects.

Building things that may or may not pay off:

  • Ezine
  • Web site
  • Second ezine
  • More web sites
  • New product
  • Add value to old product
  • Create a discussion board
  • Create an email discussion list
  • Volunteer to help the ICF
  • Start playing guitar and singing (badly) for pubs and parties

*** I'm talking weeks, and sometimes months. Often on projects that don't produce a dime. (Hmmm ... maybe that's not so smart!) ***

  • Recreate brand, implement through 15 sites
  • Create free download
  • Start coach training school (a good 2 years went into that one)
  • Try advertising
  • Try public speaking
  • Try advanced web strategies
  • Go for the national media
  • Offer to coach for a national TV show
  • Write to Oprah
  • Get promoted to Chairperson of ICF Publicity Committee (network with board members)

*** I’ve ‘failed’ so many times it’s ridiculous. Often it seems like a waste. But looking back, now that it’s all coming together so well, it just seems like throwing a hundred hooks in the water, and finding a few of them landed some fish. Which in turn started attracting bigger fish... ***

  • Target celebrities for coaching
  • Speak at a conference
  • Call a radio show
  • Meet with a big internet marketer for coffee
  • Start http://www.freegoalsreport.com/ (6 months +)
  • Hiring
  • Have a booth at a conference (meet Jack Canfield, cross promote, meet Bill Harris, cross promote ...)
  • Build Becomeacoach.com (6-12 months)

*** Many things don’t pay off. In fact perhaps most. But right now many things are coming together, and bam!

I see another bam happening next year. Why? Because there are things I've spent over a year on that haven't borne fruit yet.

And then another bam the year after. Why? Because I am investing now in a new company that I’m really excited about.

The point? We'll - it's pretty obvious don't you think?

Keep moving.

Keep growing.

Keep producing.

Keep trying.

Keep talking.

Keep creating.

It doesn't matter if 95 out of 100 don't go anywhere. You'll learn a massive amount from the 95 that don't, and really enjoy the results from the 5 that do!

Action: What will you invest in?

What are YOU working on now, that might pay off in 3, 6 or 12 month's time?

What projects do YOU want to make happen?

As well as making ends meet, are you also investing in your future?

1) Think about the future of your business. Envision what you would love to see happen. What are you doing today that will bring you closer to that future?

2) Post the next project(s) you plan on investing in at the blog . Remember, it doesn't have to be money. It might be your time.

Enjoy!

David

What's possible in YOUR relationship?

I was very moved to receive this success story from a reader of my ebook: ‘The Truth About Women’:

"David, I have to say thank you sooooo MUCH!!! My husband and I seemed to be worlds apart until I found your ebook. We were in such bad shape I thought there was no where left to go.

We starting reading 'The Truth About Women' together about a week ago and it was as if the light came on. He actually looked at me and said "I GET IT!” I understand now what you've been trying to tell me all along"

We have our good days and our bad days, but the bad ones are becoming far less and when we need to we just reference your ebook to seek coaching!

I know this all sounds so stereotypical but it is the truth. Thank you so much. You have truly saved a family from it's own demise!"

2. FEATURE: How to Travel and Make Money at the Same Time

Wouldn't it be nice to find a way keep getting paid while traveling?

How about getting paid FOR traveling!?

You're on the road, out of pocket, out of the country, out of sight - do you have to be out of income?

We all want to travel the world - but how do you do it and finance it while you travel?

My good friend Christian seems to float from country to country - for years now. I figured it was time I grilled him (and my R&D team) for answers, so I can pass them along to you.

Go from passive, sunburned tourist to getting involved. From postcard buyer to postcard seller. You have skills and ideas that can sell internationally, right there around the home.

DISCLAIMER: As always, I take no responsibilty for your actions. These are ideas only. Whatever path you choose, investigate the risks and get professional advice before taking action.

Category 1) Don't Work

This first group of ideas below can take significant effort to set up. But once it's done - you can be set for life! I'm talking about passive income - money that doesn't mind that you're on a walkabout (That's Aussie talk for - well - walking about.)

Ideas like:

  • eBooks and eCourses
  • downloadable sessions/seminars
  • a drop-ship Internet company
  • store up savings, invest well,
and then pay yourself the interest
  • be kept by a rich man or woman

But people had ideas of other ways to travel and not really work:

  • be a courier, delivering something of value to your destination (like documents or a car!)
  • be a companion for the elderly or disabled, or for a child or woman traveling alone. Or even accompany a pet on a flight!
  • write a book as you travel; make money from it down the track

Category 2) Work

Perhaps you're not in a position to succeed with the Don't Do Work option. This is where the fertile minds of the SolutionBox bloggers really came into their own.

Get accredited in the travel industry, and then using those credentials to gain benefits and incentives for specific resorts and hotels.

Blogger Paul K has friends that do a music tour - not rock stars, just ordinary guys who play an instrument, but go on the road.

Kim Knight and others suggested teaching English as a Second Language, noting that there is significant demand for it worldwide, and it's generally not required to speak the local language.

And the work doesn't need to be for cash - offering to work as barter could quickly get you a ride, a meal, a room, etc.

Important: Always check what you propose with an immigration lawyer (or at least your destination countries immigration web site) before working in another country!

Ideas include working as a:

  • coach or consult! I've gone to many cities
and been able to keep my coaching practice going - all you need is an internet cafe and a good calling card
  • run teleclasses on any topic you like
  • internet marketer
  • nanny or aupair
  • camp counselor (you can often get a cultural exchange visa. e.g. search for 'Camp America'. I did this myself!)
  • photographer
  • sound or lighting technician with a traveling show
  • ski or snowboard instructor (I've done this too! Didn't get paid, but a free season pass)
  • work on a ship - cook, deckhand, activities coordinator
  • work at a resort (I've done this too!)
  • butler/personal assistant
  • translator
  • be a guide
  • athletic trainer
  • motivational speaker
  • be a spruiker (i.e. the people speaking on the microphone about perfume in department
    stores)
  • flight attendant
  • busker (honey b. well asks "what is busk?" - Webster says it's "a person who entertains especially by playing music on the street"). Can you juggle?
  • anything on a cruise line
  • teaching - music, yoga
  • writer - get paid to write articles for travel or health magazines, or local English language newspapers
  • become an online gambler. e.g. poker. You could study gambling until you truly understand the risks and strategies.

Many jobs require no specific planning or training, and will be readily available in many locations:

  • wait staff, kitchen
help, bartender - especially in high season
  • dog-walking
  • cleaning
  • gardening
  • fruit or produce picker
  • massaging
  • source unique local product, and ship it back to sell at Western prices. Think eBay!

Make it happen

By looking at ways to make money while traveling, you're also looking at new ways to experience a place.

Instead of coming home with just souvenirs and photographs, you could also come home with a deeper understanding of where you've been, and - with extra money in the bank!

Again, it is especially important before working in another country, to make sure that you check the legalities of what you can or can't do work-wise and what, if any, visa requirements you need. Doing the legal research before you go may save you time, money, and possibly deportation!

Action Stations

Would you love to travel, but finances keeping you stuck at home?

1) Where would you love to go?

2) What are your TWO favourite methods listed here?

3) Post your answers at the blog.

Have fun, and make money!

Enjoy,

David

My Australia Trip

I'm in Oz right now, hanging in Cessnock with my parents.

That's about 2 hours North of Sydney.

Here are my two highlights so far:

- lying under the stars holding my Mum, and us both crying fully at our pain of losing Bronwyn (the woman I proposed to) and Katherine (my sister, when I was young). I’ve only let myself go like that in front of about 5 people in my life, and never my parents. And I’ve never seen her cry like that. It was a very healing experience, and a very powerful step forward in our relationship.

- I found out the guy who was Mum’s ‘second father’growing up has Alzheimers and is in a home. Mum confessed she’s been too chicken to visit him becausethey said he wouldn’t know her. So I took her out to the home. It was such a moving experience - after 10 minutes he knew her. And I felt I deeply connected with him. Looking into his eyes reminder me of looking into the eyes of a 2 year old. Just there, present, vulnerable, soaking you in.
96 year's old! He wants to leave this Earth. He says often things get worse and he feels it's time to go, then he just gets better again.
At the end he looked me in the eye and said 'Good luck to you'.
I put my hand on his heart and and said 'And good luck to YOU'.

David in Oz.

Riddle

I just realised I have three wonderful, powerful women working for me, whom I've never met.

RIDDLE:
What do you call a man who has three women working for him, who he's never met?
