The Silly Aussie Video

I have been playing with a little video.

Professionally, it's one of the silliest things I've done.

If you're interested:

1) Watch this 2 minute video:

http://www.solutionbox.com/freevideox.htm

2) Post your comment below.

Cheers!

David

P.S. The goal is to have fun, and to perhaps get some
viral signups and even sales.

P.P.S. If appropriate, feel free to share it with your
crazier friends!

I really saw no point to the video other than mentioning the letter; which anyone would read anyways. The video does not portray a professional ethic.

David,
If you're going to use video, make it easy and have it pop up immediately without all the fuss of having to download a plug in. MP3 version is better. And I still haven't seen the video.

With all the hoops I had to go through and then, no clear directions except to sell me into your system, I was annoyed. You can do better.

David, I have to say, you remind me of Shaggy on Scooby Doo! I was'nt quite sure what to make of it, my guess is; a portrait of someone who does not seem to know what is happening in their life???!!! Jayne Briggs, UK

Seems you have lost your way David, what you need is a Life Coach!!!

At 1:48 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

well, frankly, it looks like you smoked something...

i think this may hurt your reputation, David...

...and i'm a pretty unconventional guy myself :)

Of course you send it. Professional -pahh- it isn't "stuffed suit" professional, but it serves it's purpose. It is a communication. As unusual as it is, it gets people talking whether they liked it or not- it makes another connection, secures another e-mail link. (did it have sound? I thought it was quirky in a funny sort of way without sound.) I do agree the tech should be worked out to be easier. I could view it in a new window, but not from the link - something to do with my security settings with Norton.

Silly? Tes... Send it? Why not? Being staunch & stuffy is not what coaching is about. It is about trying new, different and even silly things to make change.

Thanks for your free spiritedness!

I'm kinda a believer in do it right, or don't do it.

I think it could end after the digeridoo....in fact, I thought it did end at that point because there was a pause.
You would be good in sound enlightenment type practices :)

Many entrepreneurs do not see the line where unconventional,uber-creative, innovative and yet professional meets the ugly edge of 'edgy'. You have crossed this line. The important question is: If you knew that, would you still waste my time?

At 6:39 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well, it is obviously time I went to bed. I have just sat and watched a man look aimlessly around. Why, because he asked me to watch.

I think you should send it just to measure the gullibility of your clientele. How many of us question requests from people we have come to trust?

I couldn't get RP to work. I am a Gold Customer and have no problem using it elsewhere, I can usually play everything from Windows Media, to RP, QT and Flash. This didn't play. I was disappointed because I have most all your products and am a fan and would have liked to know what the Australian connection is on your video...

I am running on a new Mac (not the new Intel vesrion) with OSX 10.4.6 and have several browsers- Explorer, Firefox and Safari.

I am a bit of a video nut and everyone seems to be encoding to Flash. That is probably a better bet than RP. RP is a major pain to work with--per the other comments on this Blog. If the brainy guys at Google prefer Flash, they must be on to something...

Actually, my sister has a very good technical blog on all this at www.stepheniehollyman.com/content.html?page=8

Check out her archives. There's lots there on streaming IP video pros and cons.

Good one David - not what the "run of the mill" would expect from a life coach and mentor, but I am sure it would soon change their minds (after seeing it) to seeing that life is meant to be fun.
Go for it!

It is lot of great fun..loved it... was great no doubt and very close indeed but problem is that other people, except the Australians, have not heard the real aboriginal playing just like that. May be you could include a part of real aboriginal artist playing in your video as well.

I personally like it in Sydney Australia.

David, I get the impression the video is supposed to be kinda zany or wacky and maybe even make people laugh. But it made me feel uncomfortable, I didn't laugh and I haven't cringed for someone like that since I watched David Brent dance in The Office.
So now I'm wondering why I should take advice from someone who needs to ask if this is a good idea...
Please do not listen to those who say you should send it in some kind of free-spirited gesture. Take the advice of those who tell you that you could do better - cos you could hardly do worse!

At 5:43 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Funny, very funny. It may not be professional but that is the very image that is putting a lot of clients off using a life coach.
Life is too short to be too serious.

At 6:29 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I enjoyed the digeridoo impression and am impressed by how long you could make the sound. I thought the initial silent part was too long, as I had sussed what was happening way before then and only hung on to be a loyal person and to be able to give you my comments.
I like the new shaggy hairdo, unlike some commenters, far better than your shorn look. I thought the cuddly toy a little much, even for me.
I have no idea whether it will harm your image as a serious professional. It doesn't with me, it makes you into a more rounded individual from my perspective, but I have done plenty of strange things myself and am all for expresing our individuality.
I agree that there are far too many hoops to jump through before getting to the video, since it is the most tenuous link I have ever come across, it should not be an obstacle course to get through it as well. That is extracting the ****

Hilarious, clever, amazing you could do it...What about an opener where someone plays a digeridoo and you talk about how we argue for our own limitations. For example "Could YOU become a digerdoo?" Of course not, but what if you asked "WHAT IF?"

THEN do the goofy digeridoo thing and mention the freedom of breaking your own limitations as a coach or with a coach.

HUMOR is great, just aim it more accurately...in my HUMBLE opinon. I truly enjoy what you do, too bad you are an ocean away Mr Swingin Single!

*grin*

I beleive a more professional and exciting approach would attract a prospective coach. For someone just entering the field requires an upbeat and motivating pressence. It was too monotone and unappealing. You look great,David, project the energy we know you can invoke!

Amazing. Very Good for you, you have added softness and humanity to your immage. Great courage is needed to expose the soft side we all have in. We don't need to be strictly profetional to be accepted as ok people, the courage itself to expose... is a sign of profetionalism. I guess you're incursionating into new space....

Incursionating - what a great word!
I can't remember the last time I produced such a mix of reactions.
And great to hear about all the technical problems (sounds like flash is the way to go).
Well - now we REALLY know what an R&D team is for. Thanks for all your comments guys. I clearly won't use this as a viral tool...might just add it to my collection of silly videos with absolutely no point ;-)

Well David, I personally think the video is funny. It shows your silly side, which is great! I don't think you should use it to promote yourself to new clients, though. Save it for those of us who appreciate your sense of humour and who you've already made a good impresson on. Obviously you're a really fun guy who has built a successfull and professional coaching business, despite the off the wall humour.
Kudos to you, and thanks for the laugh!

Yes David, send it-especially to individuals who are just developing an interest in Life Coaching-laughter is a good way to begin.

OUCH! Daivd, I hope you have enough bandages for all the cuts that some fo the bloggers gave. Yea, it was a little different, but obviously you put together a hit when it comes to blogging! Great Idea! Can I use it on my upcoming web page?

Personally, I love your creativity and humor when it comes to your articles, videos, and audios. I get some really creative and useful ideas from you and your site.
Continue to stay outside the box ... you have a niche when it comes to getting people to alk about your site! I think your great!

David, you're a good guy. Few people will actually get the video but I appreciate it. You have to have depth to om the way you did and the roo made me laugh.

Keep your sense of humor and freedom to be yourself. For a "Life Coach" that is being professional.

Hey David,

No matter what some people say there is nothing wrong with you.
It´s just that they still have not transcended the "predictable" and "acceptabe" in the corporate arena. Don´t forget a long time ago people almost killed brilliant men who found out that The Earth was NOT flat but round...

So it is no surprise that people still try to do something to hurt brilliant minds these days.

Keep up the good job. I think you bring lots of inspiration and new paradigms and ways for people to truly find their way to a more enjoyable and happy life.

No one would watch for long.

Hi David. As a motivational speaker, i would simply like to add that your presentation on the websites have been professional and have letf an impression on many peoples lives that you are genuinely interested in their welbeing. I am grateful for this. However, the new video does not do your brand justice and i strongly suggest that the context in which it is introduced would not encourage the once off listener. Within the training sessions it might have a place though. Keep up the professional brand you have established as not many people will understand your humour in this regard. I "pondered" on my answer. Yes, it isn't very professional BUT it does show a fun personality.
I'd like to work with a fun professional.... SO....I voted NO..but decided to change my vote to yes!

I am not sure what the video is about because I am deaf and the video wasn't accessible for me. I don't know if you have deaf coaches but I am pretty new to life coach and I would like to learn as much as possible about life coaching. Resources are a bit restricted because of accessibility issues.

Thank you David,

As I only joined your programe last night, it is great to see my mentor has a sense of humour!
Particularly as I live in Australia and seeing our culture enjoyed! People love lightness and joy!

I don't like white people using Aboriginal culture as a joke. The history in Australia is one of abuse and I think it's important to be respectful so I rather you be extra sensitive in that area. The Aboriginals had their lands taken over, they were poisoned, put in missions, forbidden to use their languages, had their children taken away from them. Families were torn apart. The social problems today are huge it's really sad. It's always best to be respectful of Aboriginal cultures.

Even today the children from the "lost generation" are still searching for family members. Mothers are still mourning the loss of their children and wondering where they are.

Drug and alcohol problems are huge, and many people are lost with grief.

If you really want to make a joke about something Australian then don't choose a sacred Aboriginal instrument.

Hi David...it's a very cute video and just wacky enough to work. I feel there's a few opportunities to streamline it, or do something a little different with it. Some people may think it's so "far out there" that they may miss the "hook." Can you think of ways of introducing the "hook" earlier? Cheers, Noel

At 6:05 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Doesnt portray 'professionalism'but certainly shows you have a sense of humour. I liked it. And you pretty much had the didgeridoo down pat - the only thing the aboriginals do differently is they do it down a long wooden pipe! Not sure where the bunny with the boomerang came in tho! Made me laugh after a long day at work. Keep it up.

At 6:15 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

'anonymous' at 1:12. Yes we have all those issues with our aboriginal culture, but he was not poking fun at the aboriginals or their culture! At no point did he say anything derogatory about the aboriginals or the digeridoo. So please get off your soap box.

Hi David:

As a "fresh" newcomer to your site, I found your video added the sense of humour to break up the serious state we all get in some time when looking at new ventures. I enjoyed the chuckle and seeing a personal side of you.

I'd send it for sure.
